Cyclebetes Ontario...here you go !!!

We got up early this morning in the rain but I slept in my Cyclebetes bike uniform because we got in so late last night so I was ready to go :-) We met the Cyclebetes Ontario team, they are pumped and ready to take this glucometer across their province. I passed on the baton (the Nano glucometer) to Laura and said good-bye to my new friends Chris, Willie, Megan, Kim, Giulia, Jill, Carey, Barb, James, Grant and Cara who were supporting us and riding with us on Team Quebec. Also want to send a big hug to Kirsten, Heath, Jim, Val and Ivan who we were with for part of our great adventure. I will miss you all. This was such an amazing experience. I do not want to leave, I want to ride with you all the way to Victoria and beyond. Go Team Cyclebetes Go...and see you soon

Nous nous sommes levés tôt ce matin à Ottawa mais j'avais dormi avec mon uniforme de vélo Cyclebetes alors j'étais prêt à repartir :-) Nous avons rencontré l'équipe Cyclebetes de l'Ontario pour leur passer le relais (le glucomètre Nano) pour continuer ce grand relais à travers le Canada. J'ai donné le relais à Laura, qui est une fille de 11 ans d'Ontario qui a aussi le diabète juvénile. Ensuite j'ai dit bye-bye à mes nouveaux amis Chris, Willie, Megan, Kim, Giulia, Gill, Carey, Barb, James, Grant and Cara qui nous ont supporté et ont pédalé avec nous sur l'équipe du Québec. C'était une expérience extraordinaire et je ne veux pas partir. Je veux faire du vélo avec eux jusqu'à Victoria...et encore plus loin. J'adore Cyclebetes.

Cyclebetes Provincial Relay Report - Day 3 - Brilliant !!!

Wow, already our last day across Quebec. We started at 6am this morning from Trois-Rivières and it was still dark but the weather is perfect, sunny, cool and very little wind. Mum and I had a great shift near Sorel this morning, we were very speedy (average 30km/hr). We played a game of the most beautiful, the most original and the most ugly ornament that people had in their front yard. Some pretty interesting ornaments out there, we had such fun. We stopped in Montreal for an event at Accu-Chek after lunch. Mammie, auntie Louise and lots of other people were there to cheer us in. It was so nice, we all rode in (mum and I on the tandem, 8 bikes including my little 5 yr old brother on his bike....he was so cute) and we had a wonderful reception with clowns and music and clapping and the media. It was great to see my mammie Monique and tante Louise. I got a super cool hat from the clowns (a giant aquarium with a red fish, so cool). I also got a nice tatoo printed on my arm of the Cyclebetes logo. Mum and I had to do a speech about Cyclebetes and our experience. After that, we all got back on the road and continued our big ride to Ottawa. Mum and I rode again after dinner and it was getting dark but we had a great ride. Daddy and Chris Jarvis (olympic rower with type 1 diabetes) took the team into Ottawa at midnight at high speed. Tomorrow morning I will be passing the baton (Nano glucometer) to the Ontario Team for them to continue this wonderful adventure across the country.

C'est déjà notre dernier jour à travers le Québec à vélo tandem. Nous sommes partis de Trois-Rivières ce matin à 6am pour nous rendre à Ottaw. Maman et moi avons pédaler près de Sorel ce matin et on allait super vite. On a joué à un jeu en pédalant pour trouver la décoration de jardin la plus belle, la plus originale et la plus laide. C'est incroyable tout ce que les gens utilisent comme décorations, on a eu bien du fun. Nous avons arrêtés à Montréal pour faire une visite chez Accu-Chek et rencontrer les gens du public et les médias. Ma mammie Monique et ma marraine Louise étaient là avec ma petite cousine Chantal et son copain André qui a aussi le diabète juvénile. C'était vraiment cool car nous étions sur le tandem maman et moi et le reste des membres de l'équipe Cyclebetes Québec étaient avec nous en peloton pour se rendre à cet événement. Même mon petit frère Sam était sur son petit vélo pour faire les 6km avec nous. Il y avait des clowns et de la musique et les clowns m'ont fait un super chapeau en ballons, c'est un aquarium géant avec un poisson rouge dedans, super drôle. Je me suis aussi fait faire un tatoo sur le bras de notre logo Cyclebetes. Maman et moi avons du faire un discours sur le podium pour le public et les médias. Ensuite nous avons repris la route vers Ottawa, maman et moi avons fait une section sur le tandem après le souper et il commencait à faire noir. On a fait du vélo dans le coin de Grenville et on a passé ou maman faisait du rafting avant. Mon papa et Chris Jarvis (mon nouvel ami qui est athlète olympique d'aviron et qui a aussi le diabète juvénile) ont fini notre relais à Ottawa à minuit. Demain matin je vais passé le relais (un glocomètre Nano) à l'équipe Cyclebetes de l'Ontario pour qu'ils continuent cette grande aventure à travers le Canada.

Steaks Eumatimi - what a treat !!!

Nous sommes arretes a Québec ce midi pour faire ajuster notre tandem chez Bicycle Record. Nous sommes tres chanceux d'avoir le vélo tandem de Sylvie et Francis (Mille Mercis encore à vous deux) qui nous a aidé à continuer la route pendant que le Norco allait au garage. Le Peugeot fait donc partie de l'histoire officielle de notre grand relais à travers le Canada. L'amie d'enfance de maman, Mich, est aussi venue nous donner des super steaks pour le souper. Miammmmm.... Merci beaucoup Mich et Mario.

We had to stop in Quebec City at a bike shop to get the tandem tuned up a bit. We were so lucky to have the Peugeot (which I call the Pee-O-Gee-O) to do our last shift to Quebec city so that the van could go ahead and take the Norco tandem to the Bicylce Record shop for some TLC. Thank you so much again to Sylvie and Francis for landing this bike to us. We also got some beautiful steaks given to the team by my mum's friend Mich. Yammm

Cyclebetes Relay Report - Day 2 - Superb !!!

Wow, another amazing day riding our tandem with team Cyclebetes across Quebec from Montmagny to Trois-Rivieres. We took off at 7am and pulled into camp at 7pm...beautiful long day. The weather was perfect today, nice and sunny, not too windy and beautiful scenery along the Fleuve St-Laurent. What a beautiful part of our country and to see it from a tandem bike is priceless. I rode 2 shifts with mum today and we had a lot of fun, we broke our speed record and went 61km/hr down a long hill. It was so fun. We are off early in the morning for a very long day of riding from Trois-Rivieres to Ottawa with a stop for a few hours in Laval to do a public event with Roche Diagnostics. I am having a really good time and wish all my friends could be here with us. Got to go dodo, we need to get up at 5am. Bonne nuit

Une autre superbe journee sur notre velo tandem aujourd'hui. Nous avons pedale de Montmangy a Trois-Rivieres. Nous avons commence a 7am et fini a 7pm, excellente longue journee. La temperature etait ideale, beau soleil, pas trop venteux et quelle coin magnifique du pays a visiter a velo tandem. Maman et moi avons fait 2 sections, pour un total de 60km et nous avons battu notre record de vitesse pour le relais, on est alle 61km/hr en descendant une grande cote, j'ai adore. Demain nous allons de Trois-Rivieres a Ottawa en arretant a Laval pour une visite avec les gens du public et les medias. J'adore mon relais, je suis tellement heureux d'etre ici. Je dois aller faire dodo maintenant car on se leve a 5am pour reprendre la route. Bonne nuit.

Cyclebetes Relay report - Day 1 - Fantastique !!!

Bonjour a tous, et voila notre grande aventure est commencée depuis ce matin a 7h00 a la frontière Québec-Nouveau-Brunswick quand j'ai pris le relais (un glucomètre) pour notre équipe. Nous avons eu une super belle journée, des paysages a couper le souffle le long de la route 132 sur le long du fleuve. Beau soleil, beaucoup de vent!!! J'ai fait 3 portions du trajets de 245km, 2 fois avec maman et une fois avec Chris Jarvis qui est un athlète olympique d'aviron, il a aussi le diabète et il est vraiment super gentil. Nous allons nous coucher maintenant, lever a 6h00 am demain pour reprendre la route 132 de Montmagny vers Trois-Rivìères en passant par Québec. Bonne nuit. Moi je vais rêver a Cyclebetes c'est certain. Merci de votre support.

Hi everyone, here we are, our adventure started this morning at 7am on the border between New-Brunswick and Québec. I took the baton (a glucometer) from Alex for our team and we took off. We rode 245km of amazing road along the St-Laurent. It was sunny and very very windy (but mummy does a great job at breaking the wind for me :-) I rode 3 shifts today, 2 with mum and 1 with a Canadian Rowing Olympic althlete - Chris Jarvis - he also has type 1 diabetes and he is super cool. I got to go to bed, we get up at 6am tomorrow to ride from Montmagny to Trois-Rivieres via Québec City. I can't wait, I love it. Thank you all for your great support to our event.

Last Training day !!! Cyclebetes Relay here we come !!

Today was our last training ride before we head off to New Brunswick tomorrow to take the baton from the NB team and start our bike relay across Quebec on Wednesday morning, July 26th. We went out for a 2hr ride this morning and got taken by surprise by a big black cloud and lots of cold rain. As you can see from the picture, we do not have any mud guard on the tandem and I got mud up my back, down my neck and everywhere in between. Got to go to bed, we have an early start tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Ce matin je suis alle faire mon dernier entrainement avec maman sur le tandem et on s'est fait prendre par un orage (voir phot0). La boue me montait dans le dos, me descendait dans le cou et partout entre les deux. Demain matin nous partons pour le Nouvean Brunswick. Nous prendrons le relais de l'equipe atlantique mercredi matin, 26 aout, tres tot et ce sera le debut de notre grande aventure a travers le Quebec. Nous serons a Montmagny mercredi soir, a Trois-Rivieres jeudi soir et nous arreterons a Laval pour faire une visite au public vendredi apres-midi (si vous voulez nous joindre, visiter le site suivant http://www.frdj.ca/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.viewPage&page_id=078688A6-CF1C-2465-1D36AE5F338257D7) Samedi matin, le 29 aout nous donnerons le relais a l'equipe de l'Ontario a l'Hotel de Ville a Ottawa vers 8h30. J'ai tres tres hate.

La Marche des Dinosaures - Unbelievable !!!

Today we went to the Montréal Bell Center to see the Walk of the Dinosaurs show. It was amazing. The dinosaurs lookes so real, I love dinausors. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and loved every minute of it. They were so big (the T-Rex was 35ft high). I highly recommend this show if you have a chance to see it.

Aujourd'hui nous sommes allés à Montréal avec mon oncle Sapin (Francois) et sa famille (Josée, Marianne et Raphaelle) pour voir le spectacle La Marche des Dinosaures. C'était vraiment bon, les dinosaures ont tellement l'air vrai. J'adore les dinosaures. Certains des dinosaures faisaient 10 mètres de haut (surtout le T-Rex). Je recommende vraiment d'aller voir ce spectacle si vous avez la chance.

Feux d'artifices de Michael Jackson - Big Fireworks in Montrèal !!!

Ce soir mon papa est arrivé (yééé) du Yukon et après nous sommes allés voir les feux d'artifices de la Ronde. C'était vraiment spectaculaire car c'était les feux d'artificdes en hommage à Michael Jackson. Tout un spectable.

Tonight my daddy arrived from Yukon (yippeee). After we picked him up at the airport in Montreal we went to St-Hubert BBQ (of course) and then we went to see the big fireworks. The show of fireworks was in honor of Michael Jackson. It was HUGE.

ZOO Granby - Super cool !!!

Pendant notre journée de congé nous s0mmes allés au zoo de Granby. J'ai adoré voir les animaux, surtout les singes, les tigres et les gorilles. J'ai aussi adoré les manèges, j'avais vraiment peur d'aller dans les montagnes russes Anaconda mais j'ai adoré. Je les ai fait 5 fois. Superbe journée au zoo avec maman.

On our day off we went to Granby Zoo with mommy. I loved the monkeys, the tigers and the gorillas. I also loved the rides, I was really afraid of going in the roller coaster called Anaconda but I absolutely loved it. I did it 5 times. Awesome day at the zoo.

Great training with Sam - mon petit frere

We did a great ride with my little brother on Tuesday. My brother Sam is only 5yrs old and he rocks on his bike. He was so excited to come with us, he did not want to stop. We did 15km and he rode his bike like a devil. He is so cute. I am very proud of him. He is our official Cyclebetes Quebec Team mascot. Way to go Sam.

Nous sommes alles nous entrainer avec mon petit frère Samuel mardi. Il était tellement content de venir s'entraîner avec nous. Il a fait 15km et il pédalait à toute vitesse. Il est tellement cute. Je suis très fièr de lui. Il sera notre mascotte pour l'équipe provinciale Cyclebetes du Québec. C'est beau Sammy.

Retrouvailles avec Vincent & Tennis Camp in Magog

Je prends des cours de tennis avec un pro (Francois) cette semaine a Magog, c'est super le fun. Je joue 2hrs par jour et je pense que je serai pret pour la coupe Rogers bientot :-) Maman et moi nous entrainons sur le tandem a tous les jours aussi pour 1hr ou 2, on commence a s'habituer a la chaleur extreme du Quebec. Plus qu'une semaine pour le grand depart de notre relais a travers le Quebec. Le highlight de ma semaine fut de voir mon meilleur ami Vincent. Je m'ennuie beaucoup de lui. Sur la photo c'est nous deux, les meilleurs amis du monde. A bienchaud

This week I am taking tennis lessons every day with a pro called Francois. It is great fun and I think I might be ready for Federer soon :-) We also train on our tandem every day for a few hours and I think that we are getting acclimatised to this extreme heat. Only one week before the big start of our bike relay across Quebec. The highlight of my week has been to see my best frienf Vincent. I miss him so much.

Hot Hot Hot - C'est chaud en titi!!

Nous sommes alles faire un entrainement de 2hrs aujourd'hui a Magog et il faisait super chaud (35oC+). Les Yukonais en ont sues un coup. C'etait super, j'ai vu plein de choses le fun (comme une couleuve entre autre :-) Demain je vais apporter ma petite camera pour prendre des photos des choses que je vois. Cet apres-midi nous avons loue un pedalo avec mammie et maman et on a saute au bout du quai. Quelle belle journee.

This morning we went for a training ride and it was super hot hot hot (35oC+). We are not used to this kind of heat in Yukon. It was great, I saw loads of cool things (like a garden snake :0) Tomorrow I will take my little camera along to take pictures of things I see on my rides. This afternoon we rented a pedalo with my grand-mother and my mum. We had a beautiful day.

La Ronde - My dream !!!

We went to the biggest amusement park in Quebec called La Ronde with my cousins Marianne and Raphaelle. I was so excited, I always wanted to go to . I went in loads of really fun and scary rides. What a blast.

Nous sommes alles a la Ronde avec mes cousines de St-Guillaume Marianne et Raphaelle. J'etais tellement content, c'etait un de mes reves d'aller a la Ronde avec mon petit frere. Nos sommes alles dans plein de maneges super cool. On a aussi vu des amis de Whitehorse a la Ronde, quel coincidence. Gabriel et Emilien ont fait des maneges avec nous et on a vu Mary avec sa famille. C'etait super le fun.

Mission Accomplie !!! Mission Accomplished !!!

Yipppie, we are now in Quebec; we have found a super tandem bike (tanks to Sylvie Waltz & Francis Jette d'Acton Vale) to continue our training and for the ride and I just reached my fundraising goal today. Life could not be any better. Thank you so MUCH to everyone who is supporting us. Only 16 sleeps before the start of our big bike ride, we can not wait. We went for a great training ride in St-Guillaume where my mum was born. We biked by the house where she was born, and by the house where she grew up and we went to visit my grand-father at the cemetery which was great.

Wow, la vie est belle. Nous sommes maintenant au Quebec; nous avons trouve un super velo tandem pour continuer notre entrainement et pour le relais (Merci beaucoup Sylvie Waltz & Francis Jette d'Acton Vale) et j'ai atteint mon abjectif pour ma collecte de fonds aujourd'hui. Merci BEAUCOUP a tous ceux et celles qui nous supportent dnas notre grande aventure. Seulement que 16 dodos avant notre grande randonnee a velo a travers le Quebec, nous avons tres tres hate. Nous sommes alles nous entrainer hier a St-Guillaume dans le village ou maman est nee. Nous avons passe devant la maison ou elle est nee et ou elle a grandit, a travers les grands champs de bles d'inde. Nous avons aussi visiter mon grand-papa Jean-Claude au cimetiere, j'etais content de le visiter a velo tandem et de lui envoyer des bisous.

Insulin Pump Site Change - I can do it by myself

Today I have to do the site change for my insulin pump. Every 3 days we change the site where my pump is connected to my body (through a 6mm or 9mm very small little catheter that goes under my skin to flow the insulin from my pump to my body). Just recently I started to do the site change on my arms by myself and I am very proud. I have been using an insulin pump for 1 year to manage my diabetes and I LOVE it, it is so much better than the multiple injections I used to have to receive every day. With my pump, I can eat when I feel hungry and I can eat like other kids at partys. Watch how I do it...it only takes a minute. Ta-dam

Skagway visit & Lake Bennett swim

Today we went to Skagway with mummy and I saw the biggest fish of my life. We saw a 50 pds King Salmon, it was as big as my brother Sam. I was glad it was not at the end of my fishing line. We stopped at Carcross on the way back to swim in Bennett Lake and it was very very refreshing (it is a glacier fed lake at the end of the Chilkoot Trail). We are leaving to go to Québec soon and I am getting excited.

Nous sommes allés à Skagway avec maman et j'ai vu le plus gros poisson de ma vie. C'était un saumon King de 50 livres, il était aussi gros que mon frère Sam. Énorme. En revenant, nous sommes arrêtés à Carcross pour nous baigner au lac Bennett et c'était très très refraichissant car c'est un lac alimenté par les glaciers à la fin de la piste Chilkoot. Je pars bientôt pour le Québec et j'ai très hâte.
